Propolis is the immune system of the hive
Propolis has been used for centuries by many cultures for its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and detoxifying properties. Propolis is a sticky substance that bees produce from tree resins and other plants.
Apiter markets propolis extracts formulated in powders and liquids with different concentrations:

Laboratorio Apiter is a regional company founded in 1978 with the goal of developing products for health benefits, by making use of a natural resource with proven therapeutic properties: Propolis.
In the early 1930s, a descendant of Swiss-German immigrants, Alfonso Roth, began working in beekeeping, adding this activity to others such as poultry, rabbit, and grape farming, which he carried out on the family farm in Nueva Helvecia (Colonia Suiza), Uruguay.
Years later, working together with his two sons, he dedicated himself exclusively to beekeeping, adapting the farm’s honey production for export and adding value through the homogenization process.
By the 1970s, natural propolis collection began, which for the first time acquired commercial value in Uruguay, leading to its export to some markets in the European Economic Community.
Parallel to this stage, research and development of technologies for obtaining propolis extracts began. As a result, Laboratorio Apiter was founded in 1978 in Uruguay, and in 1984 its subsidiary in Argentina, Quemidur S.A.
Since its beginnings, Laboratorio Apiter has been dedicated to research and development of technology related to harvesting, processing, and formulating propolis, in order to achieve traceability and standardization of its extracts, both in controlling contaminants and ensuring the stability of its active components.
Since then, Laboratorio Apiter has developed propolis-based products for human and veterinary health, becoming a leader regionally and internationally in this field. It continues to deepen its research, achieving an unprecedented pharmaceutical-grade propolis extract worldwide, and sets new challenges to innovate and continuously advance in contributing to the health and well-being of our society.
Recognizing the value of this product for its health benefits, Laboratorio Apiter was a pioneer in raising awareness among regional beekeepers about propolis collection, which was previously discarded during hive cleaning and maintenance. In addition, it implemented natural propolis harvesting using meshes designed for bees to deposit most of their propolis production, obtaining a fresher product, with lower contamination and higher polyphenol content.
Since 1982, Apiter has exported propolis extracts to different parts of the world, including Germany, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Korea, Israel, Croatia, Slovenia, and the Netherlands.
Since 2004, APITER has implemented a Quality Management System according to ISO 9001, applicable to the design, development, production, and commercialization of propolis extracts. This implementation, which consolidates continuous improvement of the system, has made it possible to achieve extract traceability to its origin and to obtain a detailed database of producers who were evaluated and qualified upon joining the Quality Management program.
Propolis is a natural product collected and processed by bees, obtained from the bark and buds of trees. It has a viscous consistency with shades ranging from greenish, brown, reddish, and even black, depending on its botanical origin.
Bees use propolis to varnish the inside of hives to create an aseptic environment, seal cracks, reduce access routes, and strengthen the hive’s structural components.
Its chemical composition is complex. Basically, it is made up of 50-55% resins and balsams, 30-40% wax, 5-10% essential oils, 5% pollen, and 5% various materials (organic and mineral).
In 35 years of research, technological development, and implementation of traceability methods, Apiter has optimized the production process to obtain standardized propolis extracts, ensuring the stability of their active ingredients and the reduction and/or elimination of contaminants.
Propolis from the Uruguayan Savanna comes from a privileged geographical region, with characteristic botanical species such as: Eucalyptus globulus, Populus sp., and Betula sp., among others, which produce a propolis extract with superior quality active ingredients.
Apiter Propolis Extract contains a high percentage of polyphenols and flavonoids in a balanced formulation that optimizes its health benefits. It contains flavonoid levels from 120 to 250 mg/g of pure propolis expressed in galangin. Minimum polyphenol content: 14%.
Propolis is harvested by selected beekeepers who are part of the Quality Management System, ensuring continuous improvement in hive sanitary management. APIMESH Harvest®. Since 1991, APITER has implemented an innovative propolis harvesting system using “meshes,” ensuring fresh propolis with higher polyphenol content and lower contamination.
